The Library and Information Services Department receives a consignment of books from Educate Yourself Limited. This constitutes part of the annual Book Donation courtesy of the University of Nairobi Chancellor Dr. Vijoo Rattansi.

Training on Publishing of Institutional Journals Using Open Journal System (OJS)

The university has implemented a digital repository with an aim to make the institutional research discoverable and accessible globally. Besides, there are other open access initiatives that can be adapted to enhance visibility of local research and improve ranking of the university. One of the initiatives is the development and implementation of institutional journal system.

Shri Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha (House of the People) Republic of India, Visits Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library

On 17th January 2023, the Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library had the pleasure to host the Speaker of the Indian Parliament (the Lok Sabha), Honourable speaker Om Birla. The Speaker donated Seventy Six copies of books and electronic books to the Library and Information Services department.

Eng. Peter Nduati donates a book he has authored to the library.

Engineer Peter Nduati donated seven copies of a book titled “Gooka from the village to the city” to the Library and Information Services department on 16th January 2023. The engineer is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi.

The Deputy Director in charge of Planning Mr. George Nyalwal and Acquisitions Librarian Mr. David Mulonzia were handy in receiving the donation on behalf of the Director, Library and Information Services.

Library Disability Mainstreaming Committee Inspects the Newly Modified Washrooms for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at the Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library

The library DMC inspected the newly modified washrooms for PWDs at the JKML library on 16th January 2023. Making facilities accesible to all it’s users is one of the performance contract target for the library department. Last year the library in the same spirit , ensured that the JAWS screen reader for the people with visual disabilities was installed in four branch libraries successfuly. These are: JKML, Parklands library, Mahatma Gandhi Graduate library, and the Kikuyu campus Library.

Additional Taylor & Francis E-Book Titles Now Available

The University Library has acquired an additional collection of 931 titles of e-Books from Taylor & Francis. The titles are relevant to students, faculty members and researchers alike. They cut across various disciplines Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, Medical and Science & Technology.

Library Participates at President William Ruto’s Launch of Tree Restoration Programme (Dec 21, 2022)

President William Ruto on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 launched a tree restoration program at Ngong Hills Forest to kick start his plan of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. The President also planted 56 trees to mark his 56th birthday, as other counties held similar functions that saw a total of 560,000 trees planted.

Library Disability Mainstreaming Committee celebrates the International Day for Persons Living with Disabilities (Dec 2, 2022)

The Library Disability Mainstreaming Committee joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day for Persons Living with Disabilities (PWD) on Friday, 2nd December 2022. At University of Nairobi, the commemoration was marked with Inter-university adaptive sports as such wheel chair basketball which took place at the Hyslop Parking lot.  Other sports included para chess and darts. Of importance was conducting registrations of PWDs by the National Council of Persons with Disability (NCPWD).
