The University of Nairobi Library held discussions with the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) on November 11, 2025, to explore opportunities for a knowledge management partnership. The engagement marked the beginning of structured discussions aimed at developing a comprehensive and mutually beneficial knowledge management system that will enhance the preservation, accessibility, and dissemination of knowledge resources across both institutions.

Monday, September 22, 2025, marked a memorable occasion for the Library Directorate and the Knowledge Ambassadors from the Faculty of Agriculture. Having officially graduated on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Chancellor’s Court, the ambassadors chose to celebrate their academic milestone by expressing gratitude to the Library Directorate for its unwavering support throughout their four-year journey.

In memory of the late Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, who recently passed away at the age of 87, the library will be honoring his remarkable legacy and literary contributions to modern African literature. 

We are pleased to announce the addition of a new open-access resource, "The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The Mombasa Campus Library hosted a visiting team from the Mombasa Law Courts Judiciary Library, comprising the Head Librarian and his Deputy. They were received by the Mombasa Campus Librarian in charge, Mr. Matthews Nyapela.

On April 23, 2025, the Library received a generous donation of 600 science books, primarily focusing on biology, from Dr. Maarten Kapelle, a renowned scientist and currently the Chief of the Scientific Assessment Branch at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This valuable contribution significantly enhances the Library’s scientific collection and supports academic and research efforts in the biological sciences.

The library held an open user engagement forum for students with disabilities on 17th April 2025 in the board room. This is a forum where the library staff meets with various groups of users to discuss how best they can deliver services to them. This was the second forum for students with disabilities; the first one was held in June last year.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson, visited Kisumu Campus on Thursday, March 27, 2025, accompanied by senior members of the University management, including the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Brian Ouma.

During her visit, she toured the library, where she was received by the Librarian in charge, Madam Jane Opiyo. She assessed the library’s readiness ahead of the arrival of first-year Module One students expected in the coming intake.

A group of Law students from North Western University, USA, visited the UoN Law library. The team was accompanied by one of our fourth-year law students and had a guided library tour conducted by the Law library staff. The students are in Kenya, conducting legal research on the use of social media by law students. They were very excited by the fact that they could locate some of the print resources in the Faculty of Law library that they use back at their university, a confirmation that the UoN library is an excellent world-class information center. 

Scientific Animations Without Borders (SAWBO) is a university-based program. SAWBO transforms extension information on relevant topics, such as agriculture, disease, and women's empowerment, into 2D, 2.5D, and 3D animations, which are then voice-overlaid into a diversity of languages from around the world.
