Library Receives Book Donation from Mau Mau War Veteran During the 2024 International Mau Mau Conference (Oct 16-18, 2024)

During the biannual International Mau Mau Conference, organized by the Department of History and Archaeology, the library received a donation of two titles - "Mau Mau detainee" and "Kizuizini", from Mr. Joseph Muthee Murage, the author and former Mau Mau war veteran.

Mr. Muthee records his experience during the insurgency in illuminating detail. His books shed light on the “sophisticated life of the English Settlers before Kenya’s independence, the life of their African servants, the fight for independence, the Mau Mau and their tactics though lacking in technology, the resilience of Kenyans in fighting for their rights against the colonists, heroes, and traitors, all in the fight for Kenya’s freedom’

The conference which ran from October 16th - 18th, 2024, was themed “Mau Mau: Transitions & Contours of the Post-colonial State’. The Library was one of the invited exhibitors in the Conference which was held at the University of Nairobi Towers, 4th Floor. Prof. Jack Odhiambo, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences represented the Vice Chancellor and presided over the opening of the conference.
