Floral Tribute to the Mahatma Gandhi Statue: Honouring a Legacy of Knowledge

On 04/02/2026, the Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Research Library was honoured to host The Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, India, Mr. Janesh Kain, for a significant visit focused on heritage and academic collaboration. The University of Nairobi delegation was led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (RIE) Prof. Leonidah K Omaso and Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (PGS&R), Dr. Kenneth Ombongi. The visit served to strengthen ties between our institution and New Delhi, centered around the shared values of Mahatma Gandhi.
The ceremony began at the Mahatma Gandhi Statue, where Mr. Janesh Kain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, paid a solemn floral tribute, reflecting on Gandhi’s enduring principles of peace and non-violence.
The delegation was received by the Librarian-MGGL, Ms Alice Okongo, who led a tour of the ultra-modern Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Research Library, exploring its specialized postgraduate collections and state-of-the-art research facilities. The visitors were briefed on our special collections, including the "Indian Corner," which houses significant Thai embassy resources, biographies, and doctoral theses.
This visit underscores the Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library's role as a bridge for international academic exchange. We look forward to continued partnerships that enhance our research capacity and preserve the legacy of the Mahatma for future generations of scholars.
