Library COVID-19 Awareness & Infection Prevention Measures.
STUDENT PREPAREDNESS
BEFORE ENTERING THE LIBRARY
- All students seeking to access the Library MUST wear face masks at all time
- Mandatory hand-washing at the entrances to the library building
- Temperature screening for ALL entering the library by use of thermo-gun
- All those entering the library are registered at the library entrance for ease of contact tracing. This is enforced by the security personnel at the library entrance
ONCE IN THE LIBRARY
- Social Distancing: Users are expected to use ONLY authorized reading chairs and tables that are arranged in the recommended spacing of one and a half meters
- The Library displays print posters and/or other informational signage promoting safe health practices.
HANDLING OF PHYSICAL BOOKS
- Students are encouraged to use e-books and e-journals. However, where there is the physical return of books, there is “quarantine or books left for 2 days before returning to circulation
- Staff members handling library materials at the circulation desk should have protective gear: gloves and masks.
- Borrowing of books is suspended until further notice. This also applies to print newspapers
LIBRARY COMPUTER LABORATORY
- Library users are encouraged to come with their own devices to access E-Library. Due to the nature of sharing of computers, the labs will therefore remain closed until further notice.
- The library will continue promoting online services and resources in order to limit the number looking to visit the library, including training in Information Literacy.
STAFF PREPAREDNESS

ONCE IN THE LIBRARY
- Social Distancing: Staff members are expected to maintain 1.5 meters social distance at all times while in the workplace.
- Sanitize at designated places.
- All staff meetings are carried out virtually.
- Avoid sharing computers and if you have to, ensure you disinfect the machine before use.
- Work surfaces should be wiped with disinfectants regularly.
IN CASE OF COVID19 INCIDENCE:
- Inform the University Health Service Rapid Response team and the parents/ guardians for further action.
- Isolate the person in the designated room while they wait to be picked up by the Rapid Response Team.
- Ensure that they have hygiene supplies available, including a face mask, facial tissues, and alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Remind staff who are monitoring the student or staff member with symptoms to practice social distancing where possible.
- Cordon off the space used for isolation after the ill person leaves. Open it after proper cleaning and disinfection.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, focusing on areas where the person is known to have been and items they had touched (e.g., reading desk, chair, etc.).
- The Library will be closed and all services provided digitally for the next 14 days.
