LIBRARY PARTICIPATES IN KENYA LIBRARY & INFORMATION SERVICES CONSORTIUM (KLISC) PRE-AGM WORKSHOP/AGM 2021

The workshop was held on 3rd June 2021 at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA), Mombasa. The theme of the event was “Enhance, Entrench and Disseminate Research Output”.

The Chair KLISC in his welcoming remarks spoke on the progress of research in Africa. Compared to other parts of the world, Africa shows that the research is still low. Most of the e-databases are found in the North of the world but circumstances could be hindering Africa’s progress in research. However, despite all the challenges, research shows that Africa has grown in terms of research publishing especially through the repositories.

Some of the problems affecting Africa’s research are low visibility, inadequate institutional collaboration in research, discoverability of research. With all these issues surrounding the research, the current generation needs to work towards improving the situation. Some of the questions that need to be answered are: what are the barriers to improving? How do we improve access to research? When these questions are answered, decisions will be backed by scientific knowledge.
