The section stocks materials on East Africa in general and Kenya in particular. The collection is enriched by the higher degree theses and dissertations of the University of Nairobi as well as relevant ones submitted elsewhere
East Africana Collections
Materials housed in the section are composed of books and dissertations, maps, journals and periodicals. Books are mainly authentic publications written on Kenya by Kenyans locally and externally in all disciplines, as well as publications from East African and other African countries.
Theses and dissertations
These are stored and issued for reading and study particularly by postgraduate students and staff who are undertaking research on various disciplines. The abstracts for these materials are available online on the Institutional Repository on this link; http://erepository.uonbi.ac.ke/
United Nations materials
The Library is a depository of United Nations and other international agencies materials. The Section receives books and journals. E.g. International Labour Organizations (ILO), World Health Organizations(WHO), Food and Agricultural Organization(FAO), United Nation Centre for Trade and Development, United Nation Centre for Development (UNCTAD), United Nation Centre for Industrial Development (UNIDO).
The purpose of the UN collection is to support and “promote academic research and studies on UN issues, foster the sharing of knowledge and facilitate outreach activities to help convey the UN message to the largest possible audience” The UN website is available at this link: http://www.un.org/en/
Government Publications and Kenya Gazette.
Government publications are available online. They can be accessed through the Kenya Government websites. However, the Section stocks printed copies. Whenever a user prefers a printed copy to an electronic copy, it is availed.
Photocopying.
Photocopying of Theses and dissertations is prohibited.
Photocopying of other Africana and UN materials is allowed but within the stipulations of the Kenya Copyright Laws.
