Library Holds Open User Engagement Forum for Students with Disabilities (Apr 17, 2025)

The library held an open user engagement forum for students with disabilities on 17th April 2025 in the board room. This is a forum where the library staff meets with various groups of users to discuss how best they can deliver services to them. This was the second forum for students with disabilities; the first one was held in June last year.

The students raised a number of concerns. They requested a lockable section for their use in the library where their equipment, such as computers with screen readers, can safely be placed. Among other issues raised were the need for the library to hire personnel well-versed with adaptive ICT skills for persons with disabilities, the need to improve the library website, which is not yet accessible to them, and the need for the library to purchase modern information equipment such as a note taker.

The forum was graced by, among others, the acting director of library and information services, Mr. George Nyalwal, the Deputy Director of technical services, Madam Rosemary Otando, the acting Deputy Director of Administration, Madam Evelyn Anambo, the Librarian of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Mr. Stanley Macharia, the open user forum secretary who was also the moderator, Mr. Laurian Omondi, Deputy Librarian of the Faculty of Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine, and the university disability liaison officer, Madam Mildred Omino.
