69th United Nations Habitat, World Bank, University Librarians Workshop (2025)

The 69th United Nations Habitat, World Bank, University Librarians Workshop was held at the United States International University (USIU) on the 28th of February, 2025. Mr. George Nyalwal represented the University of Nairobi on behalf of the Director of Library Services.

Mr. Nyalwal, the Deputy Director of Library Services and in charge of planning, presented a report on the state and progress of the University of Nairobi library, including efforts to migrate to the open-source KOHA library management system from V-Smart, a commercial system.

He also highlighted the common staffing challenges facing University libraries in the country. The workshop’s theme was “Artificial Intelligence as the co-pilot to librarianship, the emerging trend in content development and information dissemination.”

During this workshop, Mr. Nyalwal presented a paper titled “Investigating Integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Academic Libraries: A Case of Kenyan Universities.”
