Library & Information Services Director attended this year's Kenya National Digital Essay Competition prizegiving event where participants from Kang’alita Primary School in Turkana County were awarded prices for composing a captivating essays in Kiswahili. This year's competition was sponsored by eKitabu, a long time partner of the University of Nairobi, and was aimed at promoting digital literacy in primary and secondary schools.

The competiton is organized by the WWW project which strives to champion girl’s education in parts of Samburu and Marsabit counties, hitherto considered hostile to the education of girls. Negative socio-cultural practices have long conspired to prevent girls from enrolling and staying in school. These are slowly being eroded, partly due to WWW project interventions.

WWW projects - Wasichana Wetu Wafaulu | Wasichana Wote Wasome; fall under the umbrella of the "Girls' Education Challenge" an initiative by the UK’s Department for International Development launched in 2012 as a 12 year commitment to reach the most marginalised girls in the world and is the largest global fund dedicated to girls’ education.
