The University of Nairobi Open Access/Academic Integrity Week begins with a Bang

The University of Nairobi Library Open Access and Academic Integrity Week Started on high a note on 6th June 2018 and will run until Friday 8th June 2018. This year’s Open Access/Academic Integrity Week is being celebrated in Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library, School of Business (SOB) Library, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) Library and College of Education and External Studies (CEES) Library.

This activity is students’ centered. The students were mandated to carry out the activities and cover the event. The activities include trainings in Open Access Resources and Academic Integrity, exhibitions, entertainments and raffles. Students from College of Health Sciences (CHS) volunteered to provide public health information to participants. Some of the activities involve calculating body mass index (BMI) and measuring blood pressure for free.

The students associations involved in the activities include Medical Students Association of Kenya, Students from Faculty of Arts, School of Journalism students, Marketing Students Association, School of Economics Students and student volunteers from CAVS and CEES.

The Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Production and Extension (DVC, RPE) graced the opening ceremony. The Ag. DVC, RPE advised students and staff to embrace open access and self archiving. He also challenged the library to enhance Information Communication and Technologies (ICTs) to enable users to access electronic information resources and services.

Those in attendance included Director, Graduate School; Managing Editor, University of Nairobi Press; Director, Library and Information Services among others.
