Kenya Library and Information Services Consortium (KLISC) in collaboration with Electronic Information for Libraries (Eifl) organized one day training for government institutions managers in Kenya on repositories and policies. The training was held at Nairobi Safari Club, Kenya on 28th February 2018. It was officially opened by the Ag.Director of Library and Information Services at the University of Nairobi, Angela Mumo who is a KLISC Executive member. In her remarks, the Ag.Director said that KLISC has many committees in place that could support the Open Access Initiative. She urged those institutions that have not yet joined the consortium to do so and grow together with the other member institutions.

The aim of the training was to sensitize Government institutions Managers on open access, repositories and open access policies formulation and implementation. Most of the universities are already on board as far as Open Access is concerned. It was found important to bring on board government institutions because they too produce information and they need to showcase it.

Among the topics covered included;

  • Open Access Initiatives
  • Contributions of Open Access
  • Open Access success stories
  • Creating enabling policies for Open Access
  • ICT framework for Open Access
  • Copyright issues

The participants were urged to be Open Access Champions wherever they go.
