Upcoming Short Course on "Scholarly Writing & Publishing in High Impact Journals"

The University of Nairobi Library & Information Services Department, in collaboration with the University of Nairobi Enterprises & Services Ltd (UNES) is offering the following short course from 22nd to 23rd February, 2018:


Target group: The course targets Postgraduate students, Lecturers as well as Researchers.

Venue: University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library

Time: 8A.M. - 4P.M.

Duration: 2 days.

Publishing an article in a journal is one of the prerequisites of graduating with a Masters or PhD degree in Kenya.  It is also a requirement for promotion in all academic cycles. Therefore, many people in academic cycles have been trying to publish articles and book chapters to enable them graduate or get promotions.  The skills to write quality articles do not come naturally to authors. Neither does the knowledge on where to publish. The University of Nairobi has organized a short course on scholarly writing and publishing that aims to impart skills on the academic publishing process.

Course Objective

The main objective of the course is to equip the participants with skills on how to identify relevant research topics and literature from the different online databases as well as to publish in high impact journals.

Expected outcome

It is expected that at the end of the course, participants will have learned the following;

  • How to select research topics
  • Online literature search strategies
  • How to identify and select journals in which to publish
  • How to avoid plagiarism
  • How to distinguish genuine journals from predatory journals
  • How to use various tools to identify high impact journals
  • How to promote a publication

At the end of the course a certificate shall be awarded.

Cost: 30,000
